Gender-Affirming Voice Training in Austin

These four Austin speech therapy practices say on their own sites that they offer gender-affirming voice training. Three are run by a named speech-language pathologist, and we looked up each one in Texas’s license records on October 15, 2026; all three are current. Three offer a free consultation, and at least two work online, so you don’t have to drive across town every week.

Austin Voice Institute’s page lists what the work covers: pitch, resonance, intonation, speaking rate, volume and body language, not only how high or low you sound. For hormones and the rest of transition care, see our guide to gender-affirming care in Texas.

Speech-Language Pathologists

Harmonic Speech Therapy

Harmonic’s site says “androgynous, feminine, fluid, and masculine voice recipes are within reach,” and asks whether your voice gets you misgendered or causes voice dysphoria. It describes its care as “self-directed, neurodivergent affirming, trauma informed.” The practice also does singing and swallowing therapy, and it serves clients in Texas and ten other states.

Clarity Speech & Voice

Courtney Pruitt offers “voice feminization, masculinization, androgynization, or gender-aligned singing training,” online, to Austin and the surrounding area. Every client starts with a free 15-minute consultation, then a one-time evaluation and regular sessions. She sets the price at the consultation.

She doesn’t take insurance, but she’ll give you a superbill to file for reimbursement if you ask. The number of sessions “vary greatly,” the FAQ says.

Austin Voice Institute

Dara Whitehead-Allen trained as a classical soprano and has worked as a speech pathologist and voice coach since 2007. Her gender-affirming voice page covers pitch, resonance, intonation, rate, volume, language and body language. She starts with a case history and a voice assessment, and she says avoiding vocal strain is part of the work.

  • License check: Dara Whitehead-Allen, M.S., CCC-SLP, speech-language pathologist, current (TDLR, October 15, 2026)
  • Sessions: private or group, in person in the Austin area, by phone or online

A Clinic With Insurance

Sol Speech & Language Therapy

Sol is a North Austin speech therapy clinic with a page for “Transgender Voice Feminization Training,” written for trans women and trans feminine nonbinary people. It’s in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Tricare, traditional Medicare and traditional Medicaid. Whether your plan covers voice feminization is a question for your insurer.

  • License check: the voice page doesn’t name the clinician, so ask who’ll work with you and look up their license
  • Where: 1812 Centre Creek Dr, Suite 121, Austin 78754. Monday to Friday, 8 to 5
  • Phone: (512) 808-3953, with a free phone consultation
  • More: Sol’s voice training page and insurance list

Before You Book

  • Check the license. Speech-language pathologists are licensed by TDLR. Search any name in TDLR’s license search
  • Ask about the goal you want. Feminine, masculine, androgynous or flexible voice goals are different work. Harmonic and Clarity name all of them; Sol’s page is about feminization
  • Ask about cost up front. None of these practices posts a session price on the pages we read. Ask about the evaluation, each session, and packages
  • Ask about insurance and superbills. Sol takes some insurance. Clarity gives superbills. Ask the others
  • Ask about practice between sessions. Ask what homework looks like and how many sessions they expect for your goal
  • Want to sing? Clarity offers singing training, and our choirs, theater and film guide lists Austin’s LGBTQ+ choirs

What We Couldn’t Check

  • We haven’t worked with these practices
  • Session prices, which none of them post
  • Which Sol clinician does voice training, so we didn’t check a license there
  • Free or university voice programs. The UT Austin Speech and Hearing Center offers adult voice services with graduate clinicians, but its pages don’t mention gender-affirming voice. Ask at 512-471-3841 if cost is the barrier

Last checked: October 2026. Each practice’s site read on October 15, 2026, and each named speech-language pathologist looked up in TDLR’s license file dated the same day. See how we choose what goes on a list.
