Queer Climbing Nights in Austin

Austin has three regular climbing nights for queer and trans climbers, and between them there’s one most weeks. GLAM, an LGBTQ+ climbing group, meets at a different gym nearly every Wednesday. Crux runs Queer Cuties Climb on Tuesday nights. And on the third Wednesday of the month, Austin Bouldering Project hosts a meetup for women and genderqueer climbers.

You don’t need to know how to climb first. Texas Lady Crushers says its meetups are open to all skill levels, Austin Bouldering Project gives first-time visitors a short orientation, and Mesa Rim sells a one-week intro package with rental gear and a belay lesson for $40.

The Short List

NightWhen and where
GLAMMost Wednesdays at 6:30 pm, at Mesa Rim or Austin Bouldering Project, plus outdoor Sundays
Queer Cuties ClimbTuesdays, 7 to 9 pm, at Crux Central
Texas Lady CrushersThird Wednesday, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at Austin Bouldering Project, Springdale

The Climbing Nights

GLAM

GLAM (Gay, Lesbian, And More!) calls itself “Austin’s LGBTQ social climbing group.” It posts a schedule each month on Instagram. In October 2026 that meant Wednesday nights at 6:30, alternating between Mesa Rim and Austin Bouldering Project’s Springdale gym, with dinner after. It also ran two Monday nights called Femme & Them and two Sunday morning trips to outdoor crags at Reimers Ranch and the Greenbelt.

Mesa Rim’s own page says GLAM meets there on the last Wednesday of every month, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and GLAM’s link list calls those “Free Mesa Rim Nights.” On other nights you pay the gym’s usual entry.

  • Mesa Rim: 1205 Sheldon Cove, Austin 78753, (512) 284-9043
  • Austin Bouldering Project, Springdale: 979 Springdale Rd #150, Austin 78702, (512) 645-4633
  • More: GLAM on Instagram for the month’s schedule, and GLAM’s page at Mesa Rim

Queer Cuties Climb

Crux Climbing Center lists Queer Cuties Climb on its own booking calendar: “Every other Tuesday @ Crux Central from 7-9pm.” Crux’s calendar says you need a day pass or membership to reserve a spot. The flyer on the listing still says every other Tuesday, but the calendar now lists the climb every Tuesday from November 10 through December 1, so check it for the week you want.

  • Where: Crux Climbing Center, Central, 6015 Dillard Cir, Unit B, Austin 78752
  • Phone: (512) 931-3911
  • Cost: a day pass is $26, plus $5 for rental gear. Students, teachers, people 17 and under or 65 and up, military and emergency personnel get $6 off
  • More: Crux’s class and event calendar (pick the Central location)

Texas Lady Crushers

Texas Lady Crushers is a statewide climbing group that says it “creates space for women and genderqueer humans to climb and socialize.” Its About page says it opened its membership to gender nonconforming and trans climbers soon after it started in 2018. Austin Bouldering Project lists the group as one of its affinity groups and hosts its meetup on the third Wednesday of each month, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Springdale gym.

Before You Go

  • Sign the gym’s waiver first. Every gym makes you sign one, and doing it online before you arrive saves time at the desk
  • Ask for a beginner orientation if it’s your first time. Bouldering needs no ropes, so it’s the easiest way to start; rope climbing needs a belay lesson
  • Rent shoes. All three gyms rent them. Don’t buy a pair until you know you’ll keep going
  • Check the group’s latest post. GLAM changes gyms week to week, and any night can move for a holiday or a competition
  • Ask what you want to know. Restroom and locker room setups, whether the night is all-ages, and whether the gym uses the name you give at check-in are good questions for the front desk

For leagues, run clubs and team sports, see our LGBTQ+ sports leagues guide. For memberships at gyms that state their policies, see our guide to LGBTQ+ friendly gyms.

What We Couldn’t Check

  • GLAM’s November and December schedules until it posts them; check its Instagram before you go
  • Whether the queer swims at Barton Springs that some groups held in past summers will come back. We found only old listings, so they aren’t here
  • What any of these nights feel like. We haven’t climbed at them

Last checked: November 2026. Each gym’s and group’s own pages read on November 1, 2026. See how we choose what goes on a list.

How We Check

We check every business and group we name against what it publishes about itself: its own site, its booking page, or its state license. No business pays to be in a guide, and we don’t earn a commission when you book.

The full method is on How We Choose. If something here is wrong or out of date, send a correction.
