We couldn’t find a coffee shop in Austin that calls itself a gay coffee shop. Two shops say something about queer people on their own websites: Sightseer Coffee Bar on South 1st, which is women- and queer-owned, and Dear Diary Coffee on Chicon Street, which describes its regulars as “largely queer.” Two more, Patika and Mary’s Café, were profiled by the Austin Chronicle as queer-owned in 2022, but their own sites don’t say it.

Looking for a lesbian coffee shop? None of these call themselves one. Coffee Shops That Say It Themselves
Sightseer Coffee Bar
Sightseer started as a coffee roaster in late 2021 and opened its coffee bar on South 1st in May 2024, according to Daily Coffee News. Its About page says, “As a women- and queer-owned company, we understand that representation matters.” The same page says the company is dedicated to people “who identify as queer, BIPOC, disabled, and/or low-income” in who it buys from and who it hires.
Sightseer buys its beans only from women producers and roasts them in Austin. The coffee bar’s page says seasonal drinks and house-made syrups “are our thing.”

Dear Diary Coffee
Dear Diary is a vegan coffee shop in East Austin that sells locally made gifts. Its Values page says, “Because we’re a creative space in Central Austin, we naturally attract a beautifully diverse, largely queer community. We’re proud of that.” It adds that the shop wants to be “a place of equity for marginalized folks, without alienating anyone else.”
The site doesn’t say who owns the shop, only that the owners live nearby. It also says the shop keeps “political and religious commentary off our walls.”
Prices include tax, and the shop doesn’t take tips. The site says, “The price you see is the price you pay.”

Reported as Queer-Owned in 2022
The Austin Chronicle profiled these two in October 2022 under the headline “Queer-Owned Austin Coffee Shops Share Their Stories.” Neither shop says it on its own website, and the article is four years old. The Little Gay Shop also has both on its queer business map, updated in November 2025. Treat these as reported, and ask if it matters to you.
Patika
The Chronicle told the story of Patika’s two founders, partners who started with a coffee cart in 2010. Co-owner Andy Wigginton told the paper that a coffee shop’s regulars “come every day,” so “it’s your very fast track to learning about these people.”
In 2022 Patika was on South Lamar. Its site now lists one cafe, in the lobby of the 100 Congress building, and calls it “newly reopened.” The menu is breakfast, lunch, pastries, and coffee.

Mary’s Café
Owner Kenneth Gambone told the Chronicle, “Our focus is just accepting everyone for who they are when they come in,” and added, “When we do have queer people that come in, of course, we’re extra nice.” He named the cafe after his mother, who gave him a kidney when he was 18. That story is on the cafe’s own site.
Mary’s serves organic coffee, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, and Liège waffles next to St. David’s Hospital.

Before You Go
- Hours: three of the four close by 2 or 3 PM on weekdays. Dear Diary stays open until 7 PM, Friday to Sunday only. If you want a place to sit at night, our guide to Austin’s gay bars has more options.
- Weekends: Patika is closed Saturday and Sunday. Sightseer is closed Monday.
- Restrooms: none of these shops say online whether they have an all-gender restroom. Ask at the counter.
- Working there: none of them post rules on laptops or how long you can stay. Ask before you settle in for the afternoon.
- Food: Dear Diary is fully vegan. Mary’s and Patika serve full breakfast and lunch menus.

What We Couldn’t Check
We didn’t visit these coffee shops or order from them, so nothing here is a first-hand review. We read what each shop publishes about itself, and we confirmed each one is open on Google.
The older version of this page listed Once Over Coffee Bar, Cherrywood Coffeehouse, and Monkey Nest Coffee, and said we had been to all three. We hadn’t. We read their sites in October 2026 and found nothing about LGBTQ+ customers, so they’re off the list. That says nothing about how they treat people.
The Little Gay Shop’s Austin Queer Business Map also lists Bouldin Creek Cafe, The Violet Crown, and the Muse Coffee truck as queer-owned. Their own sites don’t say so, and we found no interview where the owners do.
