LGBTQ+ Friendly Lawyers in Austin: Family Law, Adoption and Name Changes

These four Austin family law firms say on their own sites that they work with LGBTQ+ clients. We looked up each named lawyer in the State Bar of Texas directory, and all four are listed as eligible to practice in Texas. Three firm pages mention trans clients or name and gender marker changes.

This page lists who says they do the work. It isn’t legal advice, and we can’t tell you which lawyer fits your case. If you only need a name change, our Texas name change guide walks through the official steps.

CHA Law Group

Christine Henry Andresen’s firm page says she “has represented LGBTQ+ clients in a variety of family law issues.” It lists the common requests: “a ‘partnership package’ for committed couples, same-sex second-parent adoption,” help with separations, and “transgender clients’ legal issues such as name change and legal gender correction.” She was invited to join the LGBTQ+ Family Law Institute in 2013, the firm says.

Before You Book

  • Look the lawyer up yourself. The State Bar of Texas directory is free and shows whether a lawyer is eligible to practice
  • Ask who does the work. A firm-wide LGBTQ+ page doesn’t tell you which attorney has handled cases like yours
  • Ask about fees up front. None of these firms post their fees on the pages we read. Ask what the first meeting costs and how billing works
  • Planning a family through surrogacy? Texas has rules on who can sign a gestational agreement. Our fertility and family building guide quotes the statute

What We Couldn’t Check

  • Fees and payment plans
  • Disciplinary records. We checked license status, not discipline history
  • Estate planning firms. CHA and Key both list estate planning, but we didn’t search for estate planning firms separately

Last checked: October 2026. Each firm’s page read on October 14, 2026, and each named lawyer looked up in the State Bar of Texas directory the same day. See how we choose what goes on a list.
