Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal for Trans and Nonbinary Austinites

These Austin studios say on their own sites that they work with transgender clients. Three do electrolysis, and two do laser. We checked every laser studio against Texas laser hair removal license records on October 15, 2026. Electrolysis has no state license in Texas, so for those studios we list what they publish and what to ask.

The Laser & Electrolysis Studio’s comparison says laser is best for dark hair and large areas and needs maintenance, while electrolysis treats each follicle, works on any hair color and is ideal for the face. It suggests laser first, then electrolysis for the stubborn or light hairs. For binders and clothing, see our binders and gender-affirming clothing guide.

Electrolysis

International Beauty Center

IBC’s transgender care page says, “We have extensive experience working with transgender clients from all over the country.” It says most trans clients start with the face, and that it uses insulated probes on stubborn facial hair. For clients planning surgery, it offers guidance on which areas to clear first.

Laser & Electrolysis Studio

This studio has been around since 1971 and says it’s “honored to have supported thousands of transgender and gender-diverse clients.” It offers physician-directed treatment plans for hair removal before gender-affirming surgery, and it says it focuses on darker skin. It’s also in network with VA insurance, which it says can cover hair removal in full for veterans.

  • Electrolysis: no Texas license applies, so there’s nothing to look up
  • Laser license check: the owner and the senior laser technician both hold current Texas laser hair removal licenses. We couldn’t find a current laser facility license at the Balcones Drive address; the facility license for the studio’s earlier Koenig Lane address expired in February 2024. Ask for the facility license number before you book laser (TDLR records, October 15, 2026)

Laser

Austin Laser Solutions

Austin Laser Solutions has a transgender care page that says its services “are specifically designed to help individuals feel more authentic and confident in their appearance.” It works out of three Salon Lofts buildings. It notes that “in most cases, insurance does not cover laser therapy for cosmetic purposes.”

  • License check: all three locations hold current Texas laser hair removal facility licenses (TDLR, October 15, 2026)
  • Where: Downtown, 311 Bowie St #100, Austin 78703; Bee Cave, Hill Country Galleria, 12700 Hill Country Blvd Suite S-121; Sunset Valley, 5601 Brodie Ln
  • Prices, as posted: priced by area size. Small areas are $50 a session, and face and neck is $100. After eight treatments, the price drops to its loyalty rate ($32.50 and $65)
  • Phone: (512) 773-9800

Before You Book

  • Check a laser studio’s licenses yourself. Texas licenses both the laser facility and the person running the laser. Look them up in TDLR’s license search
  • For electrolysis, ask about training. Texas doesn’t license electrologists, according to the Texas Association of Professional Electrologists. Ask whether your electrologist has a professional certification, and what probes they use
  • Planning surgery? Ask the studio how many sessions it usually takes to clear an area, and get your surgeon’s instructions on which areas to clear
  • Ask about cost and packages. IBC bills electrolysis by the minute, and Austin Laser Solutions prices laser by area and session
  • Ask about insurance. Austin Laser Solutions says insurance usually doesn’t cover cosmetic laser. The Laser & Electrolysis Studio takes VA coverage, so veterans can ask there first
  • Ask how your name goes on your file. Intake forms and booking apps vary

For the rest of transition-related care in Texas, our guide to gender-affirming care has the basics.

What We Couldn’t Check

  • We haven’t been to these studios
  • Electrologists’ training and certifications, which Texas doesn’t track
  • Lake Electrolysis’s and the Laser & Electrolysis Studio’s prices, which weren’t on the pages we read
  • The names of Austin Laser Solutions’ technicians, so we checked its facility licenses only

Last checked: October 2026. Each studio’s site read on October 15, 2026, and laser licenses checked against TDLR’s license files dated the same day. See how we choose what goes on a list.
