Two Austin remodeling companies say something about LGBTQ+ people on their own websites. Remodel Boutique says it is LGBTQ+ owned. Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling says it is LGBTQ+ friendly and belongs to the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce. Two more contractors are Chamber members and say nothing else about it.
So if you’re looking for an LGBTQ+ friendly remodeling contractor or a gay handyman in Austin, these four have something in writing. We also looked up each company’s state registration, because Texas doesn’t license general contractors. Our How We Choose page explains the method.

Contractors That Say It Themselves
Remodel Boutique
Remodel Boutique’s services page has a section headed “Woman, Minority, & LGBTQ+ Owned.” It says, “If you love working with mamas, poc, and the LGBTQ+ community, then we’re a perfect fit!” The home page says the company was “founded by life partners Michelle Flores and Kristen Harper” in 2011.
It’s a design and build firm, so one team draws the plans and does the construction. The company says it works inside the Austin city limits in Travis County, with a lot of jobs in Windsor Park, Mueller, Pecan Springs, and Springdale.
It posts its price ranges:
- Bathroom remodel: $30K to $75K and up
- Kitchen remodel: $60K to $125K and up, plus appliances
- Whole house remodel or addition: $300K to $750K and up
- Decks, patios, and landscaping: $30K to $75K and up
The smallest range it posts starts at $30K, so look elsewhere for a small repair.

Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling
Best Austin Handyman’s About page lists “Small, local, and LGBTQ+ friendly” among the things it says you can count on. The company is in the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce directory under Residential Construction, and its Chamber listing adds “Se Habla Español” and “Family Owned & Operated.”
The site lists handyman work sold by the day or half day, for repairs, installs, and to-do lists. It also lists kitchen and bathroom remodels, decks, pergolas, fences, patios, and rebuilds after water damage. The company says it serves “Austin and the surrounding areas” and gives a one-year warranty on every job.

Austin LGBT Chamber Members
These two are in the Chamber’s Residential Construction category. Membership is something a business signs up for. It isn’t a statement about how a crew will treat you, so ask.
Austin Custom Builders
Austin Custom Builders does high-end renovations, custom homes, and historic renovations. Its site says it is “currently accepting select high-end renovation and custom projects” for 2026 and 2027, and you apply through a form. The site doesn’t mention LGBTQ+ clients.

Honey-Do Handylady
A one-person handyman business in Lockhart, southeast of Austin. The Chamber listing says, “No job too small,” and names repaints, deck staining, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and tile repair. It says the owner, Amy, has more than 20 years of construction experience and takes jobs after her day job.
Honey-Do Handylady has no website we could find. The listing doesn’t say how far she travels, so ask whether she takes Austin jobs.

Before You Hire
Texas does not require general contractors to be licensed or bonded. They do have to be a state-registered business, according to Texas Law Help. That puts more of the checking on you.
- Registration: ask for the legal name that will be on the contract, then look it up in the Texas Comptroller’s taxable entity search
- Trade licenses: electricians and air conditioning contractors are licensed by the state. Search the TDLR license database for whoever will do that work. Plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners
- Permits: ask who pulls the permits. Texas Law Help says a competent contractor gets them before work starts
- Bids: the Texas Attorney General’s office says to get more than one bid, in writing, with detail on what will be done
- Payment: the same office says not to pay in full until the work is finished and you’ve inspected it. Its home improvement guide also explains liens and the construction account required on homestead jobs over $5,000
- Who shows up: remodelers hire subcontractors. If it matters who is in your home, ask who the subs are and whether the owner will be on site

What We Couldn’t Check
We didn’t hire any of these companies, so nothing here is a first-hand review. We read what each one publishes, and we looked up state registration by company name.
Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling is a trade name, and we couldn’t match it to a Comptroller record under that name. We also haven’t confirmed the license number on its site with the plumbing board, whose lookup has to be done by hand. Honey-Do Handylady is one person, and we didn’t look for a registration. We found no state electrical or air conditioning contractor license under any of the four company names, so ask who does that work.
The older version of this page listed Domain Construction Services as an Austin LGBT Chamber member. It isn’t in the Chamber’s construction directory now, its site says “woman-owned” and nothing about LGBTQ+ clients, and we couldn’t confirm its state registration. It’s off the list until we can.
