PFLAG Austin runs free support groups at seven places around the area each month, and they’re open to LGBTQ+ people, not only parents. For trans and gender-diverse people, TGQ Social holds a monthly gathering; its 129th was October 11, 2026. Every group here is free and says who it’s for in its own words.
These are peer groups: people who’ve been through it, talking with each other. They aren’t therapy. If you want a counselor or a therapy group, see our LGBTQ+ therapists guide.
If You Need Help Right Now
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. LGBTQ+ young people can reach The Trevor Project any time. In Travis County, Integral Care’s 24/7 helpline is 512-472-4357. The groups below meet on a schedule; they aren’t crisis services.

In-Person Groups
PFLAG Austin
PFLAG Austin’s meetings are “free, confidential, and open to everyone,” it says, including “LGBTQ+ people of any age, parents and caregivers, partners, siblings, and friends.” There’s no registration and “no pressure to speak.” An experienced facilitator leads each meeting, and most of the time goes to sharing. It says it especially welcomes partners of trans and gender-diverse people.
Many of the groups meet in churches, but PFLAG Austin says it doesn’t endorse or discuss religion in its groups. Most meet at 7 PM with doors at 6:45:
- Central: first Thursday, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4700 Grover Ave
- South: third Thursday, Faith Presbyterian Church, 1314 E Oltorf St
- Fourth Monday group: Journey Imperfect Faith Community, 7500 Woodrow Ave, on CapMetro route 5
- Cedar Park, Round Rock and Bastrop: second, third and first Tuesdays
- Lago Vista: fourth Sunday at 3 PM

For Teens, Young Adults and Recovery
OutYouth runs free drop-ins for teens 13 to 17 and young adults 18 to 23, and PFLAG’s groups welcome families. Both are on our youth and family resources guide. If you’re looking for LGBTQ+ AA, NA or Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings, see our recovery meetings guide.
Before You Go
- You don’t have to talk. PFLAG says there’s no pressure to speak. You can come to listen
- Ask what’s confidential. PFLAG asks the room to agree that what’s said stays there. Ask each group how it handles privacy, names and photos, and whether a meeting is listed in public
- Check the date first. Social groups post each month’s gathering, and dates can move around holidays
- Bringing a partner or parent? PFLAG’s groups are open to families. TGQ Social welcomes “directly connected allies”
- Ask about access. Ask about parking, steps and restrooms, especially at church buildings you haven’t been to
What We Couldn’t Check
- We haven’t been to these groups
- TGQ Social’s start time, which wasn’t in the Facebook page text we read
- The dates and places of The Q Austin’s meetups, which it posts on social media
- How each group handles a first-timer who doesn’t want to share their name. That’s a question to ask
Last checked: October 2026. Each group’s own page read on October 15, 2026; TGQ Social’s Facebook page read in a browser the same day. See how we choose what goes on a list.
