Queer Game Nights in Austin

A game night is one of the easiest ways to meet queer people in Austin without a bar or a dance floor. There’s a game on the table to talk about, so nobody has to keep the conversation going alone. These four groups each hold one every month, and each posts the date on a page it runs. We read all four on October 15, 2026.

None of the four lists a cover charge on its page. Three of them ask you to RSVP, and two meet where you can buy food or games.

The Game Nights

Local Queer

Local Queer is a social group for “sapphic and gender expansive identities,” and game night is one of its monthly regulars, next to a book club and a walking club. The pitch on its October event: “a night of dice, cards, tiny game pieces, and video games.” Board games and Switch games are both on the table. Buy something from the Wheatsville deli and find the group in the private area to the left of the entrance.

Most 2026 game nights fell on the second Thursday, and the October one ran on the third, so check the date on Partiful before you go. Each one runs 6:30 to 9 pm, and the October event capped RSVPs at 30.

Austin Lesbian Game Night

“Play board games with queer, non-binary, genderfluid, and agender friends!” is how this group describes itself on Instagram. It meets every third Sunday at 4 pm at Game Kastle, a game store in North Austin. Its July post read “see y’all at Game Kastle at 4pm!” Older listings elsewhere say 5 pm, so go by the group’s own posts.

GenX Lavender Girls

GenX Lavender Girls is a Meetup group for “Austin’s lesbian, bi, queer women born between 1964 and 1980,” and its events are “exclusively for LGBTQ women and their chosen guests.” Most of its calendar is dinners and shows. Starting October 29, two members are hosting a card and board game night at one of their homes in South Austin each month, 7 to 9 pm. The listing asks guests to be OK with dogs, and it’s BYOB.

This one is new, and it’s in a private home, so the address goes only to people who RSVP. The next dates on Meetup are October 29, November 19 and December 10.

  • Where: a member’s home in South Austin; address shared when you RSVP

Austin Queer/Allies Social

This Meetup group is for “young queer people and allies,” and its home base is upRising, a church in South Austin. Most of its listings are upRising’s services, but it also runs a “Board Game Night!” with snacks. The last two were on Wednesday, September 9 and Wednesday, October 14, at 6:30 pm.

Before You Go

  • Check the date the week of. All four post each month’s date on Partiful, Instagram or Meetup, and dates move
  • RSVP if they ask. Local Queer caps its game night, and the home game night shares its address only with people who RSVP
  • Bring a game if you like. Local Queer’s game night has Switch games too. Ask the group if you want to bring your own
  • Ask about access. Ask about parking, stairs and noise if those matter to you, and whether a home host has pets
  • Know who it’s for. Each group says who it’s for: Local Queer for sapphic and gender expansive people, Austin Lesbian Game Night for queer, nonbinary, genderfluid and agender friends, GenX Lavender Girls for LGBTQ women. Read the group’s page before you go

For more nights out that aren’t at a bar, see queer Austin by day of the week and our sober spaces guide.

What We Couldn’t Check

  • Whether each game night still runs this month. Each group’s last post or event date is listed above
  • The GenX Lavender Girls game night, because the first one is October 29
  • Whether upRising’s game night is set for a regular Wednesday. The last two were second Wednesdays
  • Accessibility at each venue

Last checked: October 2026. Each group’s Partiful, Instagram or Meetup page read on October 15, 2026. See how we choose what goes on a list.
