Austin doesn’t have a lesbian bar right now. The group behind Austin’s weekly sapphic night says so itself: “Austin doesn’t have a standing one anymore. So we made our own.” Its version is a different bar every week.
So the answer to “where’s the lesbian bar?” is a calendar. A weekly night moves from bar to bar, a traveling pop-up comes through a few times a year, and there’s a sober happy hour for people who’d rather skip the bar part.
The Short List
| Where | What it is | Next date we saw |
|---|---|---|
| Sapphic Weekly ATX | A free lesbian night at a different bar every week | October 15 and 22, 2026 |
| Hairpins | A traveling pop-up party for lesbians and queers | October 24, 2026, Stargazer Bar |
| Local Queer | Sapphic and trans socials, including a sober happy hour | November 4, 2026 |
| Cheer Up Charlies | A queer bar on Red River | Open Thursday to Sunday |
Sapphic Weekly ATX
Sapphic Weekly ATX calls itself “Austin’s weekly lesbian & sapphic social club for queer women, WLW, and anyone in between.” Every week it picks a different bar and turns it into the lesbian bar for the night. It’s for “lesbians, bisexual, pansexual women, queer and questioning women, nonbinary sapphics, trans women,” and most weeks there’s no cover.
Coming alone is the normal way in. Its FAQ says most regulars came solo the first time, and if you message the group on Instagram when you get there, “one of us will come find you.” You don’t have to RSVP, though it helps them warn the bar about headcount.
- Next nights: Sapphic Pool Night at Coppertank, downtown at 5th and Trinity, Thursday, October 15, 2026, 8 to 10 PM. Then a Halloween party at High Noon, Thursday, October 22, 8 to 10 PM, free and 21+
- Lately: Lesbian Night at The Grackle in East Austin on October 7, 2026, per Do512
- Where to check: This week’s spot on its site, or @sapphicweeklyatx on Instagram. The day of the week changes, so look before you plan around it

Local Queer
Local Queer is an Austin nonprofit that “exists to create and nurture spaces where sapphic and trans individuals can find belonging.” Two trans men started it in 2022. It runs a monthly book club, a walking club and a game night. If you don’t drink, its Non-Alcoholic Happy Hour moves between Mozart’s Coffee and Radio East. The next one we saw was Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Twice a year it also runs CampOUT, a camp weekend in Buda, covered in our hiking and camping groups guide.

- Not drinking? Local Queer’s happy hour is non-alcoholic
- Ask about access. Bars change week to week, so ask the organizers about steps, restrooms and seating before you go
